“NEL BLU” BY CATERINA DI PERRI AND “MALATEMPORA” BY MOTUS

On Thursday, 16 February, 2023, at 8.30 p.m a new appointment with “Aperitivi in danza” organized by MOTUS

The International Center for Art  (Via Mencattelli 5/7 Siena, Italy) on Thursday, February 16th, hosts the opening of  “Nel Blu” art exhibition and the contemporary dance performance “Malatempora” for the “Aperitivi in danza” festival.

The event starts at 8.30 p.m with the vernissage of the “Nel Blu”, exhibition by Caterina di Perri.  As Kandiskij says in “The Spiritual in art”, “the deeper the blue becomes, the more strongly it calls man towards the infinite, awakening in him a desire for the pure and, finally, for the supernatural…”. Blue is the leitmotiv connecting the photo-paintings included in the exhibition, some of which are inspired by water and its  different movements drawing wonderful shapes. Other works show the artist’s point of view on seemingly anonymous objects that, with a closer look, reveal surprising worlds inside them. “Nel Blu” is the first exhibition by Caterina Di Perri, a self-educated artist who began shooting pictures when she was 6, fueling this passion along with music. She was a jazz guitarist until 1995, when she simultaneously started her collaboration with Siena Jazz Association. Photography has always been present in the life of Caterina Di Perri, from the very first attempts with a reflex camera and her experience with photographs developed in the dark room, to the current digital approach. She is the author of the photo-paintings of more than 30 covers for the prestigious ECM Records label, with which she regularly collaborates as a photographer during recording studio sessions. That collaboration gave her the chance to capture many classical and jazz musicians, such as Gary Peacock, Joe Lovano, Marylin Crispell, Kim Kashkashian, Avishai Cohen, Shai Maestro, Bobo Stenson, Ralph Towner. At the same time, she’s carries on her research on abstract photography, mainly inspired by Nature themes.

After the exhibition, the MOTUS Company presents “Malatempora”, a performance with choreography by Simona Cieri and direction by Rosanna and Simona Cieri. The show passes from dramatic to ironic phases, with the objective to bring on stage the contradictions of our times. “Malatempora” underlines some of the aspects of the current historical time, highligting that the increasing mediocrity and superficiality, can be fought using Culture as a strong and elegant weapon, the only instrument able to include and welcome. The performance, with the dancers Martina Agricoli, Ilaria Fratantuono, Roberta Morello and Mattia Solano, is produced by MOTUS with the support of Regione Toscana.

Tickets: € 10 (reduced: € 8).

During the event as usual, a buffet will be offered, to facilitate the interaction between audience and artists in a convivial atmosphere.
