“GIVE PEACE A CHANCE”: FROM TUSCANY A SCREAM AGAINST WAR

The MOTUS Company’s performance to support Emergency takes placeon March 13th  in Castelnuovo Berardenga to celebrate the “Festa della Toscana”

“Give Peace a Chance” is a project carried out by MOTUS in collaboration with Castelnuovo Berardenga City Council, with the participation of the Regional Council of Tuscany, to celebrate the “Festa della Toscana”. The project uses artistic language to raise awareness about the values of peace and memory, starting from the consideration that only by preserving and transmitting the memory of what happened, we can avoid the unforgivable mistakes of the past.

The initiative is included in the calendar of the 2023 celebrations for the “Festa della Toscana” dedicated this year to the topics of human values and fight against inequalities, on the 100th anniversary of the birth of Don Milani. “I care” by Don Milani goes in contrast to the fascist “I don’t care.” For Don Milani, “I care” is a source of the moral duty that requires not staying silent, reacting to injustice, feeling “responsible for everything,” protecting human rights, and peace. “I care” is a warning more relevant than ever, at a time when wars and conflicts threaten international stability and the survival of millions of people.

The “Give Peace a Chance” project takes place on March 13th at 8:30 PM at Teatro Comunale V. Alfieri in Castelnuovo Berardenga and involves representatives from EMERGENCY, a humanitarian organization that has been providing medical care to victims of war and poverty since 1994. Alongside its humanitarian activities, EMERGENCY actively promotes a culture of peace and respect for human rights through school meetings, exhibitions, documentaries, performances, books, and publications.

The evening begins with a meeting with the Cultural Assessor of Castelnuovo Berardenga City Council, representatives from EMERGENCY, and Carretera Central – ARCI.

After the meeting, the show “IMMEMORI,” produced by MOTUS with the support of the Tuscany Region, will be performed. It’s a work entirely dedicated to the praise of memory, which must be preserved, nurtured every day as a common good of humanity, and passed by to future generations. The performance is interpreted by Martina Agricoli, Paloma Biagioli, Giovanni Consoli, Roberta Morello, Mattia Solano, with choreography by Simona Cieri and directed together with her sister Rosanna Cieri. “In 1945, all nations said ‘never again’ to war,” emphasizes Simona Cieri, choreographer of the Company, “and they founded the United Nations with the precise goal of preventing future conflicts. But this has not been enough. Images of war from Ukraine and the Gaza Strip arrive daily on our screens. And these are just the conflicts we talk about because there are many more invisible wars in the world. In spring 2023, there were 23 high-intensity wars counted, while research from Uppsala University in Sweden recorded around 170 conflicts. It’s clear that humanity has forgotten the commitment made in 1945 too quickly.”

The ticket price is 12 euros (reduced 10 euros). The proceeds from ticket sales are entirely donated to EMERGENCY to ensure that the commitment to peace does not end with the event, but finds its natural continuation through the actions of the organization.
