The International Contemporary Dance Festival “Move Off,” organized by MOTUS in collaboration with Castelnuovo Berardenga City Council, concludes with an international event.

On May 9th at 9:15 pm an international event is hosted in the “Move Off” Festival program, organized by MOTUS in collaboration with Castelnuovo Berardenga City Council. The event features the national premiere of “Down Memory Lane” by Slovenian choreographer Branko Potočan, a show produced by “Vitkar zavod” with the support of the Municipality of Ljubljana and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia. This event aligns with the celebrations of “Europe Day 2023,” dedicated to peace and unity in Europe.
The performance “Down Memory Lane” is conceived as a journey through time and space, originated by the danced conversation of the two protagonists, Branko Potočan and Jana Menger, co-founders of Fourklor, Slovenian physical theatre group, active since 1994 on the international artistic scene. The 25 years long creative research of the two artists, filled with countless memories, encounters, connections, and emotions, unfolds on stage in the performance as an intimate and universal sequence of images, constantly relived and recreated. It’s a sort of voyage through their shared history, outlined by the playwright Andreja Kopač, with music by Mitja Vrhovnik Smrekar and light design by Andrej Petrovčič’s . The performance reveals the path that shaped them as dancers and choreographers, allowing them to “create together” and affirm their presence in the contemporary art scene. However, their shared journey inevitably incorporates individual characteristics, adding a touch of humor, boldness, and immediacy that defines their performance.
The second part of the evening features “Vedere te (1322)” by Noemi Piva, young choreographer winner of the “Move Off for Young Choreographers 2023” award. This production, supported by Atacama Cultural Association Onlus and with the assistance of Nuova Officina della Danza, received the Best Choreographer award at Corpo Mobile 2022, the recognition as the winning project at Flic*25 2022 and at Vuoti D’aria Festival 2022.
In “Vedere te (1322),” the two performers Sara Chinetti and Noemi Piva, dancing on the music by Andrea Leva, embody universal roles, giving freedom to the audience to project onto them identities shaped by personal interpretations. The characters on-stage tell about the birth, evolution, and culmination of a connection that becomes a container for family, domestic, relationship, and everyday flavors.
“We are particularly proud of this year’s edition of the ‘Move Off ‘Festival,” says Simona Cieri, choreographer and Artistic Director of MOTUS “not only for the high quality of the choreographic proposals but also for their diversification. We host family-friendly shows like Atacama’s ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ aimed at enchanting both young and old audience. Then, we present two interesting performances created by the research of young choreographers. Beyond these, after many years, we succeeded in bringing Slovenian choreographer Branko Potočan to Italy. He is internationally renowned, having collaborated with the Sarajevo National Theatre since 2003, serving as a consultant for numerous theatrical productions and winning several awards, including the INFANT 97 and MESS 98 festivals in Sarajevo, the Slovenian national award ‘Zlata ptica,’ and the international prize ‘Golden Wand’ in 2005. We are also proud to present our show ‘The Last Stop’ within the AVAT-ART project. This initiative allows individuals with severe disabilities to participate in live performances and workshops through a remotely controlled robotic avatar. All of this aligns with our artistic exploration that combines dance with social commitment.”
