Impudence dominates contemporary society making even the most private feelings public
The reserve, put up to defend our privacy, protects our freedom to open or not our heart to other people and it helps us to keep intact our subjectivity. But everything tends to storm indiscreetly in the more “private” share of us, with opinion polls, market statistics, means of communication. These last ones play a first-rate role in exalting a certain exhibitionism that makes public love stories, family disagreements, private confessions, spreading them wrongly as sincerity.
When every secret is brought to light, when everything is visible to everybody, at that moment there is a total homologation that produces noise and commonness and here the individual peculiarities vanish.
Keep silent if you can is a two-act show lasts for one hour and half where the music of Gioacchino Rossini are using not only for the musical characteristics, but also for the script content of the libretto, that often underline disagreements and squabbles, troubled loves and, above all, the use of gossip as a weapon of defence. The musical pieces are taken from different composer’s works: La Gazza Ladra, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, L’Italiana in Algeri, Guglielmo Tell, La Cenerentola, Otello.
