We saw the young people from Srebrenica digging in the woods.
We saw tattered rags, broken shoes, old soiled notebooks, collected as a precious gift.  We saw people cuddling those poor things like they could be the only means, the only sign, the last link.
Then, we understood.
The young people from Srebrenica asked: “Tell the world!”
We obeyed.

The German sociologist Wolfgang Sofsky says that cruelty has the sad gift of ubiquity, and from century to century we find it, renewed and powerful, in the agony of the cannon fodder, mass executions, rapes, oppression of the weak.

 

 

When this violence involves thousand, million deaths and the loss of huge cultural heritages, more than about violence we have to speak of crime against humanity.
This crime is mostly “observed” by the international community and it is perceived as an event far from their interests.
