“Pia” is a contemporary performance inspired by the symbolic character of Pia de’ Tolomei described in the Divina Commedia masterpiece, which brings to the stage an ancient story of an unjust and bloody domestic violence.
The story took place in the Middle Ages but the concept is still actual, because gender discrimination persisted for centuries and it still remains an unsolved problem, indeed intensified by the lockdown due to the pandemic health emergency.
The body of a young woman forced into the space of a castle-prison, attacked and thrown out of the window, constitutes the focus of the choreographic work, in which the symbolism referred to Dante’s history is projected into contemporary gestures.
