“PIA” will be presented at the Countryard of the Italian Embassy in Berlin on 19th of August
The international tournèe of the MOTUS Company starts again, after the interruption due to the pandemic. Next week the Company will fly to Germany to present the show “PIA” as part of the #DALVIVO IN ESTATE festival, promoted by the Istituto Italiano di Cultura in Berlin.
The show will be presented on Thursday 19th August at 8:00 pm in the suggestive setting of the Courtyard of the Italian Embassy in Berlin. This summer the historic neoclassical building, designed by Friedrich Hetzelt, hosts a prestigious selection of events with concerts, readings and performances.
“PIA” is a modern performance inspired by the symbolic figure of Pia de ‘Tolomei, masterfully described in the “Divine Comedy” by Dante Alighieri, whose 700th anniversary of death occurs in 2021. With a contemporary and poetic choreographic language, the young choreographer Martina Agricoli analyze the psychology of a woman forced into a prison, who rethinks about some dramatic moments of her life and becomes aware of the fact that there is no way out.
The Dante’s symbolism adopted projects the story into the present days, like the violence that has been perpetuated on women’s bodies for centuries. A story that, although chronologically distant, is still relevant, especially in times of pandemics, when, following the restrictions imposed by the health emergency, we have seen a dizzying increase in requests for help from anti-violence centers all over the world.
The performance, produced by MOTUS with the support of Regione Toscana, is interpreted by Martina Agricoli, Ilaria Fratantuono and Mattia Solano, with the direction of Rosanna and Simona Cieri.
