MOTUS presents “PIA”
in the program of Sboccia l’Estate 2025,
the summer festival of Teatri di Siena directed by Vincenzo Bocciarelli
Pia, a Sienese noblewoman of the Tolomei family, was killed by her husband Nello dei Pannocchieschi in 1297, after being held prisoner in her husband’s fortress, in Castel di Pietra in Maremma.
The symbolism adopted by MOTUS referred to Dante’s story and projects it into the present. Using a contemporary and poetic choreographic language, Martina Agricoli depicts a woman forced into the space of a castle-prison, reliving moments of her life, and whose memories materialize outside the room and outside her body, incarnating as a woman victim of a twisted love and an indifferent and violent man.
