“ETYMOS” THE NEW PRODUCTION OF THE MOTUS COMPANY AT THE RINNOVATI THEATRE IN SIENA

Friday 8 February 2019 the Company presents the new production

in the season of the Teatri di Siena

At Rinnovati Theatre in Siena, Friday, February 8 at 09:15 pm the Company MOTUS presents “ ETYMOS”,  a show produced with the support of Tuscany Region and co-produced by the Fondazione Orizzonti d’Arte.

The show, premiered in August in the frame of the Festival Orizzonti d’Arte in Chiusi, is included in the Teatri di Siena Season, organised by Comune di Siena in collaboration with Fondazione Toscana Spettacolo Onlus and supported by Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena and Unicoop Firenze.
The work deals with the theme of language as an instrument of perception of the world, in a contemporary society that moves towards the extreme simplification and homologation of language, a reflection of the dangerous cultural homologation under way. In this context, there is a high risk that the true meaning of the words, the one that beyond the term expresses its substance, will be lost. This is not a secondary problem, as Simona Cieri, choreographer of the Company, explains:

“ Words have a fundamental role in the life of individuals and  community, because they shape the society in which we live: a violent language makes the world more violent, an open and dialoguing language makes the world dialoguing. Moreover, as linguists teach, the choice of words we pronounce, both in public and in private, entails a great deal of responsibility.”

These themes are important also for young people, who are often victims of linguistic simplifications, induced by new technologies. For these reason , the Company has created a project in collaboration with the Istituto Mattioli, involving more than  550 primary and secondary school students. The project includes a matinée: the students will have the opportunity to watch the show and take part to a workshop, during which they will be invited to actively reflect on these issues, with particular reference to the language used on the web.

The choreographies, on music of various authors, are realized by Simona Cieri, co-director of the show with her sister Rosanna Cieri, and are interpreted by Andrè Alma, Martina Agricoli, Ilaria Fratantuono, Roberta Morello, Andrea Stabilini and Mattia Solano.
