On Saturday, July 5th, the center of San Gimignano will be transformed into an open-air creative laboratory with Nottilucente, the cultural festival that annually lights up the city with a night of events, performances, installations, and meetings. The 2025 edition, titled #ElettricaMente, focuses on the theme of electricity, understood not only as physical energy but as a metaphor for connection, transformation, and vitality.
Among the many events scheduled, the show “ENVY” by the MOTUS Company, which will be performed in Piazza Duomo at 10:30 PM. The show, produced with the support of the Tuscany Region, explores the impact of this universal and contemporary sentiment in the age of social media.
Envy is deeply ingrained in the human psyche, and common to all times and people, but it has never been a greater problem than it is today. Our age encourages us to compare ourselves to one and all, and the Internet and social media make this all too easy, fanning the flames of our envy. “With the advent of social media – says Ethan Kross, professor of psychology at the University of Michigan who studies the impact of Facebook on our wellbeing – envy is being taken to an extreme”. We are constantly bombarded by “Photoshopped lives and that has such an impact on us as we have never experienced in our species’ history. And that is not particularly pleasant.”
The show, with concept by Rosanna Cieri and choreography by Simona Cieri, is performed by Martina Agricoli, Ilaria Fratantuono, Roberta Morello and Mattia Solano.
The 14th edition of Nottilucente is organized by the Associazione Culture Attive, with the patronage of the Municipality of San Gimignano, and the support of the official sponsor Estra – Insieme per una vita sostenibile and Galleria Continua.
