On Sunday, November 26, the Auditorium Santa Cecilia in Perugia hosts an event for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women
An event against violence and gender discrimination takeS place in Perugia (Italy) at 5:30 PM, at Auditorium Santa Cecilia (Via Antonio Fratti 2) on Sunday, November 26. The event is part of the (ANTI)BODIES AGAINST VIOLENCE project organized by the MOTUS Company and Arcigay – Pansexual Movement of Siena, in collaboration with Libera…Mente Donna in Perugia, as part of the initiatives for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
According to the data from the Ministry of the Interior Affairs, between January and December 2022, there were 300 homicides recorded in Italy, with 120 female victims. Out of these, 97 were killed in a ordinary cirsumstances or in a family environment, and among them, 57 lost their lives from the hands of their partners or ex-partners. Gender-based violence is always rooted in value judgments expressed through language and solidified by stereotypes that, in the end, take root within the collective imagination. The aim of the associations organizing the (ANTI)BODIES AGAINST VIOLENCE project is to counteract gender-based violence and fight against all forms of prejudice and stereotypes by promoting education on differences, consent, affection, and conscious and positive sexuality.
The evening will start at 5:30 PM with the exhibition ‘MEN, WOMEN, ME,’ a photographic project conceived by Greta Sartarelli and made in collaboration with Elisa Santarelli. The project stems from a simple insight that the overcoming of the male-female binary can begin by breaking down the barriers that hinder full equality. Public restrooms, gym changing rooms, clothing stores, and children’s playgrounds are taken as paradigms of sexist binary and clear gender separation. These places are seen as environments where the opposition between man and woman is distinctly marked by universally recognized aesthetic, iconographic, and chromatic codes that over time have acquired a true identity value.
After the vernissage, the MOTUS Company presents the performance ‘Muri’ (Walls), a poetic and intense work reflecting on the condition of women who were victims of violence during the pandemic, trapped within the walls of their homes face-to-face with their executioners. The show, produced with the support of the Tuscany Region, features choreography by Martina Agricoli, music by various authors, concept by Rosanna Cieri, and direction by Rosanna and Simona Cieri. The cast are Ilaria Fratantuono, Mattia Solano, and Martina Agricoli herself.
The performance is preceded by speechs from the Association Libera…Mente Donna (Perugia) and Arcigay-Movimento Pansessuale (Siena).
Reservation is strongly recommended.
