“The Divina’s” at Teatro Marconi (Roma)

The show of the MOTUS Company against gender violence in the program of the District Dance Festival

“The Divina’s” , a show inspired by the Divina Commedia which address contemporary issues, such as gender-based violence, will be staged on Friday 14 October at 9 pm at the Teatro Marconi in Roma, in the program of District Dance, contemporary dance festival conceived and organized by the Atacama company directed by Patrizia Cavola and Ivan Truol.

“The Divina’s”, a show produced by MOTUS with the support of the Tuscany Region, with choreography by Martina Agricoli, is a choreographic project that denounces violence against women, starting from the analysis of some female figures of the Divine Comedy – Penthesilea, Lucrezia and Pia de Tolomei – using a crude and explicit gestural language, which becomes symbolic and metaphorical, often resorting to poetry, without compromising the denunciation.

Through the narration of these ancient stories of abuse of the female body, MOTUS brings to the stage the stereotypes that for centuries have labeled victims of violence. Stereotypes such as the phrase “she went looking for it” with which women are accused of having provoked the aggressor because they were too beautiful or too undressed, or the question “did you feel pleasure?” which is too often pronounced by judges during rape trials. Thus the public discovers the story of Lucrezia, a Roman noblewoman raped by Sesto Tarquinio, who committed suicide in front of her husband to demonstrate her innonce . Or the story of Penthesilea, queen of the Amazons, condemned by Aphrodite to be possessed by all men who had seen her face. Penthesilea decides to hide herself in an armor and fight the Trojan war, but she was killed and her body was raped by Achilles. Or the story of Pia de’ Tolomei, locked up in a tower by her husband-master, before being killed by his hit men.

The show is performed by Martina Agricoli, Paloma Biagioli, Ilaria Fratantuono, Roberta Morello and Mattia Solano, directed by Rosanna and Simona Cieri.
District Dance Festival is a project promoted by Roma Capitale – Assessorato alla Cultura, and won the Public Notice “Estate Romana 2022 – Riaccendiamo la Città, Insieme” edited by the Dipartimento Attività Culturali and is realised in collaboration with SIAE.

Tickets: € 10 (reduced: € 7).
