Launch of the sixteenth edition of “Move Off” International Festival for Contemporary Dance organized by the MOTUS Company in collaboration with Castelnuovo Berardenga City Council
An international event on March 23 at 9:00 PM opens the program of the sixteenth edition of “Move Off” International Festival for Contemporary Dance organized by the MOTUS Company in collaboration with Castelnuovo Berardenga City Council with the support of ChiantiBanca.
The stage of Teatro Comunale Vittorio Alfieri in Castelnuovo Berardenga hosts, by popular request, the return of the Slovenian choreographer Branko Potočan with the show “GENERATIONS”, premiere for Italy, produced by the VITKAR Institute with the support of the Slovenian Ministry of Culture and the Municipality of Ljubljana. Branko Potočan, famous on an international level, is a Slovenian choreographer and founder of VITKAR; he has won numerous awards, including the INFANT 97, MESS 98 festivals in Sarajevo, the Slovenian national award “Zlata ptica,” and the international award “Golden Wand” in 2005.
In “GENERATIONS,” Branko Potočan shares the stage with accordionist Marko Brdnik. They reveal two sides of the same topic: human movement and immobility. Western civilization celebrates strength, movement, and physicality, yet tends to encourage individuals to move as little as possible throughout their lives. The limits of our physical and psychological (im)mobility stem from a society that increasingly exerts psychological control over human movement, using it as a fundamental category of power manifestation.
Before the “GENERATIONS” performance, the rich program of the evening also includes the performance “Leave the world behind,” winner of the Move Off Call for Young Choreographers 2024.
An emotional and hypnotic journey through the intricate meanders of aging. A man on stilts challenges the implications of time, while an animalistic figure embodies the unconscious. The journey towards acceptance concludes with the beauty of surrendering to the flow of time, bringing a surprising and deeply human conclusion. The work, with choreography by Anna Pesetti, who shares the concept with Camilla Peretti, is interpreted by Natalia Malolepsza and Francesco Valli.
The next appointments of “Move Off” Festival take place between April and May 2024.
On April 20th, the Miozzo/Magrini Company presents the International Premiere of “CHNOPS”, a dance and new media art performance produced by MOTUS. The work was created during several choreographic residencies at Centro Internazionale d’Arte in Siena (Italy) and at ALDES/SPAM! – a network for contemporary arts, with technical and scientific support from Laboratorio Segnali ed Immagini dell’ISTI-CNR (Pisa, Italy).
On May 12th, “Lacuna”, a performance about the Bologna massacre created and performed by Daniela Marcozzi and produced by Marcozzi Contemporary Theatre (Germany) is showcased. The evening program also includes “Io, Lei, Me” by the Atacama Company (Italy/Chile), founded and directed by Patrizia Cavola and Ivan Truol.
The last day of the Festival, on May 23rd, hosts “IN-SIDE,” a performance by the young Spanish choreographers and dancers Lucia Montes and Mado Dallery, winner of the Move Off Call for Young Choreographers 2024. After the young choreographers, “Move Off” hosts the Sicilian company Petranuradanza presenting their brand new production titled “Sciara (genesi).”
The ticket price is €12.00 (reduced €10.00).
