A restricted autumn edition of the International Review of Contemporary Dance directed by MOTUS reopens the doors of the Alfieri Theatre in Castelnuovo Berardenga.
On 1 and 2 October, the contemporary dance festival “Move Off” finally returns to the stage of the Teatro Comunale Vittorio Alfieri in Castelnuovo Berardenga, which reopens its doors to its audience after being closed for almost two years. The Festival, organised and directed by the MOTUS Company, is realised in collaboration with the Municipal Administration of Castelnuovo Berardenga and with the contribution of Arci Siena Aps.
The programme opens on Friday 1st October at 9.30 p.m. with a special international event: the presentation of the video dance work “Parallel World”, which concludes the first phase of the Europe-Asia artistic collaboration project “Re-imagining Residency”, conceived and realised by MOTUS and the Singaporean choreographer Susan Yeung, supported by the National Arts Council (Singapore), DanzPeople (Singapore) and the Regione Toscana. During the pandemic emergency, choreographers Simona Cieri and Susan Yeung created the first phase of the project, creating contemporary choreographies in outdoor spaces, inspired by the memory of the elderly, the generation most affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. This is how “Parallel World” was born, a video-dance work with choreography by Simona Cieri and Susan Yeung, directed by Rosanna Cieri and Russell Morton, with video editing by Haf Rahman and Simona Cieri.
On the second evening, Saturday 2 October, at 9.30 p.m., the Compagnia Atacama of Rome will present an extract from the show “La Danza della Realtà” inspired by the universe of Alejandro Jodorowski (Chilean playwright, director, actor, composer and writer) produced with the contribution of the Ministry of Culture – Dipartimento Dello Spettacolo, Regione Lazio – Assessorato alla Cultura e Politiche Giovanili, in co-production with the International Festival of Contemporary Dance Paesaggi del Corpo. The show, with choreography by Patrizia Cavola and Ivan Truol, is performed by Nicholas Baffoni and Camilla Perugini. Following this, the MOTUS Company will present “Muri”, a show that tackles the social scourge of feminicide and domestic violence, which appeared in all its drama during the pandemic. The domestic walls transformed into prisons for women victims of violence forced to “stay at home” during the lockdown, in the performance materialise in an iron cage built to enclose the victim, while, outside it, an alter ego interacts with the perpetrator. The show, with choreography by Martina Agricoli and direction by Rosanna and Simona Cieri, is performed by the dancers Martina Agricoli, Ilaria Fratantuono and Mattia Solano and is produced with the support of the Regione of Toscana.
All performances will start at 9.30 p.m. at the Alfieri Theatre in Castelnuovo Berardenga and will take place in compliance with anti-Covid19 regulations.
The evening of 1 October for the presentation of the video dance work “Parallel World” is free, while for the shows on 2 October the entrance fee is € 10.00 (reduced € 8.00).
