Every five seconds in the world a child dies from hunger. Yet food production is sufficient to meet the entire world demand. Then the food is there, somewhere. The real problem is that it costs too much. And while about a third of the food produced for human consumption each year, roughly 1.3 billion tons, and more than half of the world annual production of cereals (2.3 billion tonnes in 2009/2010) is lost or wasted, a half billion people on the planet is living with 1 or 2 dollars per day. Those with only one dollar a day are as many as 100 million people living in absolute poverty. For them, the only possible nutrition is a bowl of rice a day.
